London : Pakistan is going through a difficult phase but it has a bright future, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said.
“Challenges abound, but so are opportunities. I am confident of Pakistan’s bright future,” he said while addressing the annual gala dinner of the Britain-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
The Associated Press of Pakistan quoted Gilani as saying that despite heavy internal and external odds, his country had made significant progress in many fields including nuclear science and IT.
He mentioned significant strides made by Pakistanis in the fields of agriculture, industry, nuclear science, information and communications.
He added that since 9/11, Pakistan had lost over 30,000 civilians and over 5,000 soldiers and security personnel in the war on terror.
The total economic losses stood at 67 billion dollars, he added.
“The people of Pakistan have suffered the most at the hands of terrorism. And only democracy can fight this menace,” he said.
