Indian coastguard rescues 9 persons from sinking cargo vessel

New Delhi : Indian coastguards rescued nine persons from sinking cargo vessel of the Mumbai coast.

Nine persons on board a cargo vessel were rescued by the Coastguard after receiving a distress signal from it that the vessel was sinking off the Mumbai coast, pti reported quoting officials as said today.

Immediately after getting the signal from the ship M V Rak, Coastguard and Navy helicopters and boats were deployed for rescue operations and pulled nine out of 30 people on board.

‘So far, we have rescued nine persons and efforts are underway to rescue others,’ coastguard officials said.

Those on board the vessel include Indonesian and Jordanian nationals.

The vessel is believed to be carrying around 30,000 metric tonnes of coal.
