Bhopal police denies cases filed against 5000 people

Bhopal: The Bhopal police have refuted the charge that 5000 people have been booked for arson and looting in the Muslim-dominated old city area of the Madhya Pradesh capital on 10th August. The Police said that in each of the 10 cases, 500 unnamed people are the same. Media reports had earlier put the figure at 5000 by adding the number in all 10 cases.

After the communal violence followed by a police-public clash on Wednesday in which the Superintendent of Police was critically injured in the eye, the local police had filed 10 separate cases. In each case, some named people and 500 unnamed were made accused.

According to media reports, two communities clashed in Itwara area of Old City of Bhopal on Wednesday night following a small dispute over mud being splashed by a bike. Members of the two communities clashed with each other violently. When the police reached the site and tried to control the situation, the mob reportedly pelted stone on the police. SP North Zone Abhay Singh was reportedly injured in the incident.

Apparently to take revenge, the local police filed 10 cases against hundreds of people – mostly Muslims. The Talaiya police have charged them for arson, loot, burning, stone pelting and attempt to murder.
