Srinagar : The weather office here has forecast pleasant weather in Jammu and Kashmir for the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festival and also dispelled alarmist reports that there would be heavy rains in this summer capital early next month.
“We will greet the people of Kashmir with good weather on Eid which is due either Aug 31 or Sep 1. There is 90 percent probability of pleasant weather on the festival.
“There would be isolated rains in the valley tomorrow (Monday) and the day after (Tuesday) but that also ensures the temperatures would not soar,” the weather office director Sonam Lotus told IANS.
Commenting on Pakistan weather office reports of very heavy rains in Islamabad and other places for four days beginning Sep 7, Lotus said: “Meteorologically, the Kashmir Valley is closer to Islamabad and other places in Pakistan.
“There is no need for any panic as our models do not corroborate the forecasts made by the Pakistan weather office.
“Weather can be predicted with dependable accuracy only for the next 48 hours as systems keep on changing. But, if I say our models do not indicate any warning and their models indicate heavy rains, that is enough reason not to be alarmist,” the official stressed.
Going by the track record of the local weather office, forecasts made by them during the last three years have been fairly accurate.
