“We are always in a state of high alert for any eventuality, but we have boosted security at Ganeshotsav mandals (venues) and other vital installations in and around the city,” a police officer told IANS.

Security was tightened around major Lord Ganesh’s marquees like Lalbaugcha Raja, Parel, Andhericha Raja and other venues which attract huge crowds of devotees during the 11-day Ganesh festival.

Security was also tightened in the coastal Konkan region where Ganeshotsav is celebrated in a grand manner, attracting locals, domestic and foreign tourists in large numbers.
