New Delhi : The issue of opening vault B of Kerala’s Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple would only be considered after the documentation of the Rs.1 lakh crore treasure found from the other five chambers was complete, the Supreme Court said Thursday.
The “documentation, categorisation, security, preservation and conservation” of the five chambers must be completed, Justices R.V. Raveendran, A.K. Patnaik and H.L. Gokhale said.
The integrated multi-layered security of the temple and its treasure would be provided by the Kerala government which will also bear its cost, the court said.
The state government will ensure that the “temple traditions, customs and practices” are respected, it added.
The digitisation of the information of the treasure will be entrusted to the state-owned electronic undertaking Keltron, the court directed.
The court declined an expert committee’s suggestions to hand over the security of the treasure to a central paramilitary force.
The committee, headed by Director General of National Museum C.V. Ananda Bose, was set up by the apex court July 21.
