New Delhi: The Central Government has allocated one lakh more pre-matric scholarship units to poll-bound Uttar Pradesh for the financial year 2011-12. The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, the nodal ministry for the three mega minority scholarship schemes, has now set the target at 5,73,086 pre-matric scholarships for UP for the current year. Earlier the total physical target set was 4,55,097.
Of the revised target of 5,73,086 pre-matric scholarships, the target for Muslims has been enhanced to 5,51,651; for Christians it has been enhanced to 3,740; for Sikhs the enhanced target is 12,240; for Buddhists the enhanced target is 5,440 and for Parsis the revised and enhanced target is 15.
The financial allocation for this scheme for UP during 2011-12 is Rs. 99.60 crore; whereas during the last financial year the allocation was Rs. 63.32 crore.
