Afghanistan has suffered enough from terrorism: India

New Delhi: India Tuesday urged all countries in South Asia to facilitate the process of peace and development of Afghanistan, saying Kabul has “suffered enough” from terrorism.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who signed an important strategic cooperation pact with Afghan President Hamid Karzai here, also said that India will take part in the upcoming international meet on Afghanistan this year.

“Terrorism has threatened stability and peace in the region. Afghanistan has suffered enough and it needs to live in peace without any outside interference, coercion or pressure,” Manmohan Singh said in the presence of Karzai after signing of bilateral agreements here.

“All countries of the region must work to facilitate the (peace) process works (for Afghanistan),” he said. “India will stand beside Afghanistan in securing a solution that is led by the Afghan people.”

Karzai is in India on a two-day visit.

Earlier, the two countries signed an important strategic partnership agreement apart from two memorandums of understanding on mining and hydrocarbons.
