New Delhi: The Indian Union Muslim League [IUML] National Executive meeting was held at the Speaker’s hall Constitution Club, New Delhi on Saturday. The Executive meeting took in to consideration the proposal for merging Muslim League Kerala State Committee (MLKSC) with Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
The merger resolution was passed unanimously as the executive meeting welcomed and accepted the proposal of Kerala Unit of IUML (MLKSC) to amalgamate with the parent body and thereby authorized the Political Affairs Committee to take appropriate steps on both legal and technical issues including discussions with the Election Commission of India for its implementation. An eleven membered Political Advisory Committee was formed and entrusted with the responsibility to fulfil all formalities necessary for the completion of the merger process with the Election Commission of India.
The National President, Honourable E Ahamed Minister of State for External Affairs and Human Resource Devlopment [HRD] presided over the meeting. Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal, President of Muslim League Kerala State Committee inaugurated the meeting. Prof. K.M. Kader Moideen, National General Secretary, welcomed the gathering. P.K. Kunhali Kutty, Minister for Industries & IT, government of Kerala proposed the MLKSC Merger Resolution.
E. Ahamed, while giving his presidential address said, Indian Union Muslim League, in its history have been facing challenges and oppositions at various stages from different corners and many have tried to destabilise the party. He said such attempts will not work because they are one in marching forward to achieve their goals for the development of the community. He reminded that Muslim League is not just the old League and instead a partner in the coalition government at the Centre.
He said that IUML had played a vital role in implementing the Sachar Committee report. Though now not implemented to its full extent, he said they will continue to pressurise in democratic ways, so that their just demand to provide reservation for the Muslims in employment, is heard by the Dr. Manmohan Singh Government.
The meeting made a request to the Honourable PM Dr. Manmohan Singh to issue necessary instructions for the earliest implementation of Sachar recommendations including decisions such as to press for the formation of Equal Opportunity Commission, installation of a database on Muslims, taking in to consideration their educational and social status among other such factors of prime importance. In another political resolution it urged the Government of India to take an early decision for the implementation of the Ranganath Mishra Commission, so that Muslims are assured with reservations in the Central and State Services. The meeting placed its record of deep sense of resentment, over the lukewarm attitude from the part of the Government of India by keeping the report in abeyance without taking any action on it.
The meeting asked the State Units of IUML to complete the process of electing the members to the National General Council by March 31, 2012. In the light of the new developments and mergers with in the organization, a Constitution Amendment Committee was constituted with Member of Parliament, E T Mohammed Basheer as the convener.
