Lucknow: Samajwadi Party on Monday expressed its solidarity with the Muslim community on the eve of 19th anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid. The 15th century Babri Masjid was razed to ground by Hindu fanatics on December 6, 1992 in Ayodhya town of Uttar Pradesh.

“Mulayam Singh had already voiced his apprehension that Babri Masjid will be razed. Even then Congress government at the centre kept napping. They did not care about the sentiments of the Muslims,” said SP’s Uttar Pradesh spokesperson, Rajendra Choudhary. He claimed that Congress government could have averted the incident which is a disgrace to the nation.

Taking a dig at Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) founder Kanshi Ram, he remarked: “His views regarding the claim over the Babri Masjid are well known and so disgraceful that they cannot be even mentioned.”

Choudhary also stated that Mulayam has even sacrificed his government over Babri Masjid issue but protected it from fundamentalist forces.

SP leader also commented on the Allahabad High Court order of 30th September 2010 in Babri Masjid title suit.

When everyone was guarded in their comment, Mulayam Singh had bluntly said that the High Court decision is based on faith and Muslim community is feeling cheated, Choudhary said.

SP leader claimed that Congress remained in power by terrorizing Muslims while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) openly played communal card. The BSP on the other hand has been hand in glove with both of them. “Only SP is a true savior of Muslims as it has raised their issues and stood with them in their time of need. It pledges to remain in solidarity with Muslims in coming years,” he said.

The Muslim-favoring comment from SP on Babri issue could be linked with the coming assembly elections. With Muslims deserting SP during Lok Sabha 2009 elections, the party is leaving no stone unturned to attract them in its fold.
