Mumbai : A special court here Friday remanded journalist Jigna Vora, the 11th accused arrested in the J. Dey murder case, to judicial custody till Dec 20.
Special judge S.M. Modak of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court remanded her to judicial custody as the police did not seek her further custody.
A team of Crime Branch officials had, earlier this week, gone to Ahmedabad to probe Vora’s role in journalist Dey’s murder.
According to sources in the Crime Branch, she flew down to Ahmedabad frequently and was in regular touch with a few people who allegedly helped her keep track of Dey and his schedule.
Working as a deputy bureau chief with a Mumbai newspaper, Vora was arrested Nov 25 by the Crime Branch in connection with the June 11 killing of Dey, the editor (Special Investigations) at Mid-Day.
Police said Vora had allegedly provided Dey’s mobile number and his exact location to absconding mafia don Chhota Rajan.
Dey was gunned down near his residence in central Mumbai by motorcycle-borne assailants.
