“We have launched operations in areas bordering Bihar. We expect that the abducted labourers will be soon released from clutches of the suspected Maoists,” Giridih’s Superintendent of Police A.V. Homkar told IANS by telephone.

Maoists set on fire two roadrollers and two tractors near Badbara village of Giridih, around 190 km from Ranchi, Saturday night and took hostage the six labourers engaged in road constriction work.

Police suspect that refusal to pay levy demanded by rebels may be the reason of the attack and abduction.

The family members of the abducted labourers have appealed to the Maoists to release them on humanitarian grounds.
