A division bench gave the direction while hearing a petition filed by Dora Gelastine, widow of one of the Indian fishermen shot dead Feb 15 off Alappuzha coast.

Dora filed her petition against a single judge’s order Tuesday, who asked the ship owners to furnish a bank guarantee of Rs.2.5 million while she had demanded Rs.1 crore (Rs.10 million) as compensation before the ship was allowed to set sail.

Gelastine, 45, and Ajesh Binki, 25, were allegedly mistaken as pirates and shot dead by the Marines, who were detailed as security crew on the Enrica Lexie.

The Marines, Latorre Massimillano and Salvatore Girone, have been arrested for the shooting and are in police custody.

The Kerala Police team investigating the shooting is to visit the ship Saturday and examine the weapon that was used in the firing.
