Islamabad : Pakistan has allowed slain Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden’s family to leave the country, and a Yemeni brother-in-law of the militant leader has arrived here to shift his two Yemeni widows, a newspaper said Tuesday.
US commandos had killed Osama in a secret raid on his hideout in May 2011 in Abbotabad near Islamabad, where he is believed to have lived for nearly five years.
A commission probing the raid has now allowed his family members to leave the country as they were no more required for questioning.
The commission had earlier interviewed the widows.
Three widows of the Al Qaeda chief and their children are presently in the custody of the Pakistani security agencies.
The Urdu daily Jang said that Osama’s brother-in-law is busy preparing travel documents for two Yemeni widows. They will be shifted to Yemen.
There is no official confirmation of the report.
The family members have been shifted from a “safe house” to another place in Islamabad, the daily quoted unnamed officials as saying.
Police commandos have been deployed for their protection, and the family might leave in a couple of days, Xinhua quoted the daily as saying.
Saudi authorities have refused to accept the Saudi widow of Osama.
US commandos had handed over his family members after the 40-minute raid on his compound May 2, 2011.
His compound was razed late last month as it had been emerging a security concern in view of the daily visit of hundreds of people to the complex, located just two kilometres from a military academy.
