New Delhi : India will build over 100 institutions in different African countries to help develop human resources and accelerate growth in the region, a senior government official said Monday.
“We are committed to build over 100 capacity building institutions in Africa,” said Gurjit Singh, additional secretary for East and Southern Africa in the ministry of external affairs.
Addressing the 8th India-Africa Project Partnership conclave here, Singh said work on most of the institutions was on.
“It will add value in development of not only human resources but also natural resources,” Singh said.
The prominent institutions set up by India in African countries for pan-Africa use are India-Africa Institute of Foreign Trade, India-Africa Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, India-Africa Diamond Institute, India-Africa Institute of Information Technology, and India-Africa Institute of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Other institutions include India-Africa Food Processing Cluster, India-Africa Integrated Textile Cluster, India-Africa Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting, India-Africa University for Life and Earth Sciences and India-Africa Civil Aviation Academy.
Singh said the proposed India-Africa Institute of Educational Planning and Administration would help address the scarcity of trained teachers in the African region.
During the second India-Africa summit held in Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa last year, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had offered $700 million in grants for setting up capacity building institutions and infrastructure development in the African continent.
