Baghdad bomb blast kills 13

Baghdad : A bomb exploded in an old market in central Baghdad Friday morning, killing 13 people and wounding 57, an Interior Ministry source said.

A bomb, hidden in a box containing birds, exploded around 9:00 a.m. in the Ghazil market, killing 13 people and wounding some 57 others, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Ambulances rushed to the scene and carried the victims to hospitals. The nearby Kindi Hospital received dozens of wounded, he said citing medical sources.

The blast damaged dozens of shops, stalls and old buildings in the market.

The old market of Ghazil in central Baghdad has dozens of shops selling live birds, fish and animals, especially Friday when other markets are closed for the Muslim day of rest.
