New Delhi : A Delhi court Tuesday reserved its order on the petition of arrested journalist Syed Mohammad Kazmi who said officials of a “foreign agency” had interrogated him over the bomb attack on an Israeli embassy employee here.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav reserved order for Wednesday after Delhi Police submitted the names of all investigators who questioned Kazmi.
Delhi Police denied that any foreigner interrogated Kazmi.
The police said: “In this case, till date, no agency of any other country i.e. Mossad has yet come to interrogate the accused.”
Public prosecutor Rajiv Mohan, however, told the court that since terrorism was a global phenomenon, Indian officials have to cooperate with other countries.
He added that foreign investigating agencies can be allowed to interrogate suspects if required under law.
Mohan also told the court that it was not mandatory for interrogators to be in uniform.
“However, the interrogating officer always wears his identity card during the interrogation of Kazmi,” police said.
Police refused to let Kazmi’s counsel Vijay Agarwal be present when the journalist was questioned.
Kazmi, who hails from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh and is a resident of Delhi, was arrested this month on charges of allegedly collaborating with Iranian suspects who are said to have carried out the bombing.
Four people were injured when the car of an Israeli diplomat’s wife was struck by a bomb here Feb 13.
Tal Yehoshua Koren, wife of the Israeli defence attache, suffered multiple injuries when a motorcycle rider attached a magnetic explosive on her car and sped away.
Within seconds, the device exploded, setting the car on fire.
A post-graduate in Persian from Delhi University, Kazmi — whose family insists he has nothing to do with the bombing — has worked as a freelance journalist with Doordarshan.
He has also worked as news reader for a Tehran-based radio station and was working as a freelancer for Iranian news agency IRNA.
