Mumbai : A local court Thursday cancelled the non-bailable warrants issued against Hasina Parkar, the sister of fugitive mobster and India's most wanted criminal Dawood Ibrahim, and granted her bail on a personal bond of Rs.25,000.
Parkar, who was granted interim bail by the additional sessions judge here Wednesday in connection with an extortion case against her, arrived in the additional chief metropolitan magistrate's court at 11 a.m. escorted by six burqa-clad women.
After ruling that there was insufficient evidence against Parkar, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate V.K. Sharma instructed her to report to the investigating officer at the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai police as and when required within the next 30 working days.
The court observed that prima facie a case of extortion or forgery could not be found against her.
The magistrate, however, barred Parkar from moving out of Greater Mumbai area without the permission of the concerned investigating officer.
Parkar, whose name figures in the first information report (FIR) filed by the Mumbai police in connection with a real estate deal, has been on the run for the last few weeks.
A city court had issued a non-bailable warrant against her.
The Mumbai police had faced much flak for their failure to trace her. In fact after they failed to trace her at her central Mumbai's Nagpada residence, they went on a futile hunt for her from Mumbra in neighbouring Thane district to Bangalore, Hyderabad and several possible hideouts in Uttar Pradesh.
But on Tuesday, she appeared before Sessions Judge N.D. Desphande in south Mumbai seeking anticipatory bail. The judge asked her to appear before the court Wednesday.
According to the complaint lodged against her, Parkar and her associates had failed to return Rs.3 million out of an advance of Rs.10 million paid to them by Ravi Group of builders.
Parkar, who is alleged to have mediated the deal, had allegedly told the complainant to "forget" the Rs.3 million. She even threatened him with dire consequences if he persisted with his demand, the complaint said.
