Islamabad : Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has called for concerted efforts to turn the country green by planting the maximum number of saplings.
He also wants active engagement with international community to address environmental issues, Asssociated Press of Pakistan reported Tuesday.
In a message to the nation on the World Environment Day, Zardari said greenery and forests were critical for addressing environmental problems.
He said the concept of “Green Economy” held great opportunities for countries like Pakistan where the carbon foot print (the amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities) is very small.
“Being an agro-based economy, Pakistan is better placed to pursue developmental programs and also further reduce the carbon foot print of economy,” the president said.
