Kolkata : CPI-M leader and former MP Sujan Chakroborty Friday alleged his driver and supporters were attacked by Trinamool Congress supporters, in West Bengal’s South 24-Parganas district earlier in the day.
“At around 8.30 a.m. I was in Baruipur, sitting inside the house of a supporter. All of a sudden, Trinamool activists attacked my driver and supporters who were standing outside the house,” Chakroborty said. “They ransacked my car and mercilessly thrashed my driver. I was inside the house, so they couldn’t hit me.”
Chakraborty, who heads the Communist Party of India-Marxist’s (CPI-M) South 24-Parganas district committee, said his driver had filed a police compliant.
However, district police superintendent Pravin Tripathi said he was unaware of any attack on Chakraborty, a former member of parliament (MP).
“I’m not aware of any such attack. I’ll check the details with the local police station and let you know,” he said when contacted.
