New Delhi : With monsoon round the corner, Mahender Nagpal, Leader of House in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, has appealed to the Delhi High Court to instruct the Delhi government to ensure cleaning up of major drains in the capital city.
He said the inaction of the public works department (PWD) and the irrigation department of the city government was nullifying the civic agencies’ efforts.
“Despite regular clean-up and silt removal in drains under municipal corporations, these are overflowing as the major drains under the PWD and the irrigation department have not been cleaned. Even the manholes lie uncovered,” Nagpal said in a statement.
He requested the court to order the state government departments to initiate the cleaning up of the major drains so that the city was not flooded due to overflowing drains during the rains, expected to arrive around month-end.
