In an advisory, the electric company appealed consumers to report power theft as the uninsulated hooks through which the power thieves draw power from overhead cables are potentially hazardous, especially in wet and windy weather.

“BSES teams on a daily basis remove large quantities of illegal wires from our overhead systems and yet unscrupulous elements callously and carelessly manage to hook again and again, creating potentially hazardous conditions,” the advisory read.

The advisory claimed that preventive maintenance has been undertaken by BSES throughout the city to prevent rain-related breakdowns or incidents.

BSES urged the public to help curb the menace by reporting any power theft incidences on their helpline numbers or to police.

The company also advised people to stay away from wet electric installations such as transformers, street lamps and poles, besides keeping electric testers at home to detect electricity leakage in case of water seeping through walls and reaching household switchboards.
