Conviction rate in SC, ST cases maximum in MP

Bhopal: Conviction rate in cases pertaining to crime against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes is the maximum in Bharatiya Janata Party ruled Madhya Pradesh in the country. Conviction rate in cases pertaining to Scheduled Castes is 35.1 per cent and Scheduled Tribes 33.2 per cent. The national conviction rate in cases pertaining to Scheduled Castes is 35 per cent and Scheduled Tribes 25 per cent.

The conviction rate in cases of crimes against Scheduled Castes is 3.9 per cent in Maharashtra, 7.9 per cent in Orissa, 9.7 per cent in Kerala, 11.5 per cent in Bihar, 14.3 per cent in Assam and 15 per cent in Andhra Pradesh.

Similarly, the conviction rate in cases of crimes against Scheduled Tribes is 7.3 in Andhra Pradesh, 20.9 per cent in Orissa, 25.5 per cent in Jharkhand, 12.2 per cent in Bihar, 5.1 per cent in Karnataka and 3.7 per cent in Maharashtra.

Compared to year 2010, the rate of crimes against Scheduled Castes has come down by 0.43 per cent and cases pertaining to Scheduled Tribes by 2.87 per cent in year 2011. Challans have been filed in 98 per cent registered cases in courts. It is the maximum compared to other states.

Meanwhile, prompt action is also being taken in cases of human trafficking in the state. During year 2011-12, as many as 31 cases of human trafficking were registered and 130 women and children were rescued. In all, 219 accused were registered in these cases. There is a proposal to set up 24 units of human trafficking prevention units in the state. Eight units have been set up in the first two phases. In all, 212 Family Counselling Centres are being run in the state to prevent families being disintegrated. ([email protected])
