Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh): The Aligarh Muslim University has lodged a police complaint and demanded stern action against 27 candidates who used unfair means or impersonators for admission to the B.Tech. course at the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology.
AMU proctor Khursheed A. Khan said that the proctor’s office has provided all the relevant information about the candidates’ names and their addresses in the first information report (FIR) filed with the Civil Lines police station.
The 27 cases of impersonation were detected while identifying the candidates by using ‘biometric system’ at the time of admission.
Using this technology, the university authorities were able to detect any discrepancy in the photographs and thumb impressions of the applicants who appeared in the admission test and those who were later found seeking admission.
AMU vice chancellor Lt. General (Retired) Zameeruddin Shah Saturday announced that the university was taking this matter “very seriously”. He said the university would pursue the cases with the police so as to set an example for the future.
Prof. Hamid Ali, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, said that the probe committee constituted by the vice chancellor decided to deny admission to these candidates for using unfair means in the admission test.
More than 42,000 applicants took the admission test May 20 at Aligarh, Lucknow, Kolkata, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Kozhikode and Srinagar. The university finally admits 292 students to the engineering college.
