Raipur : Suspected Maoist rebels in Chhattisgarh Sunday attacked policemen with sharp edged weapons, killing a constable and critically wounding an assistant sub-inspector.
The incident took place in at a weekly market in Gadiras village of Dantewada district, nearly 425 km from the state capital Raipur.
“Four or five men took out sharp-edged weapons from a bag at a weekly market, close to a police station, and attacked the two policemen in the neck and chest,” police sources told IANS.
The constable died on the spot while the sub-inspector was taken to the district headquarters in a serious condition. The assailants also took away an AK-47 and a rifle from the cops, the sources added.
