New Delhi : A suicide note provided by the wife of Paras Bhasin, a 23-year BBA student whose severed body was recovered on a railway track here has added a new mystery to the case, police said Wednesday.
Investigators said that during Tuesday interrogation Bhasin’s wife Shelly, who secretly married him at an Arya Samaj temple in May against the wishes of her family, provided a suicide note “jointly written” by them in the last week of August after her family objected to their relationship.
“Both wanted to commit suicide Aug 27, a day after she told her family about her marriage, but they changed their plans later. We will verify the handwriting,” said a police officer.
Police said they were planning to question the drivers of trains which crossed the Pandav Nagar area between 3.30 p.m. and 4.15 p.m. Saturday.
“The case is still open. There is no point in rushing into a conclusion. We are treating it as a murder case and an independent inquiry is going on,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Kumar Jain.
Police have, however, not disclosed conclusively if the death was due to an accident, suicide or murder.
The official informed that call details of Bhasin’s mobile have also been analysed.
“Bhasin did not talk to any unknown people the day he was found dead. The last call Paras received was made by one of his friends. Police could not find any suspicious call in his phone records,” said Jain.
The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) student, Bhasin, was found near railway tracks in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar Saturday afternoon.
“In the CCTV footage of Delhi Metro, Paras was seen boarding the Subhash Nagar Metro station at 3.22 p.m. Saturday and reached Lakshmi Nagar Metro Station at 4.11 p.m. He was seen alone,” said Jain.
Police registered a case of murder Monday against the family of Shelly following the allegations of the victim’s family that he was murdered and started questioning her and her family members since Tuesday.
Bhasin’s family alleged that the family of his wife, who stayed in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, had been allegedly threatening Bhasin for the past couple of days and killed him because the couple was from different castes and economic backgrounds.
“The girl’s father used to threaten Bhasin to end the relationship. He also used to call my father to warn Bhasin,” said Uday, the victim’s cousin.
Bhasin’s mother said that her son was in good mood, he had to meet a lawyer in the evening.
“He was excited about his marriage. He was mad about the girl. He could not understand anything apart from her. Why would he commit suicide?” asked Bhasin’s mother.
She alleged police was not investigating the case properly. “My son is gone…I want justice,” she added.
Police said that the passerby, who informed the victim’s mother about his death, has been identified.
“The passerby saw the body and called up after removing a visiting card from the victim’s wallet. The police are not suspecting him to be behind the murder,” said Jain.
