“We have received the post-mortem report. Now police are corroborating and verifying the facts,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime & Railways) Sanjay Kumar Jain, adding that they were treating as a murder case.

Satish Mittal, father of Shelly whom Bhasin, 23, secretly married at an Arya Samaj temple in May against the wishes of her family, told police: “Since July we were looking for a groom for my daughter. In the meantime, on Aug 23, I came to know that Shelly had an affair with Bhasin. I was not happy with their relationship but did not oppose and asked her to think again.”

“On Aug 27, she called me to inform that she was sitting on the track and about to commit suicide. I pleaded with her to come back and promised to do whatever she wanted me to do,” Mittal told police.

“On Aug 29, I called Bhasin and asked him about his background and job. I was not completely convinced about his carrier and asked him to get a proper job and then I would consider their alliance,” Mittal informed investigators.

However, Bhasin’s family alleged that Mittal had the main role in their son’s murder as he did not approve of the relationship.

Mittal said that Sep 1, Bhasin’s sister had sent a text message to my son informing about her brother’s marriage with my daughter but I didn’t believe. Later, I asked my daughter and she told me about the marriage.

“My family is being framed. The allegations are baseless. Bhasin had tried to commit suicide several times. My daughter Shelly told me that Bhasin has threatened her that he will commit suicide,” he added.

Shelly provided a suicide note, jointly written by them in August, to police during her questioning.

“She told us about their suicide note only during the police questioning. She said he was always threatening her, he used to slashing his wrist, pressured her to act. She is still disturbed,” Mittal said.

The body of bachelor of business administration (BBA) student, Bhasin, was found near railway tracks in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar Saturday afternoon.
