Agartala : Continuing to offer sops to woo the electorate ahead of the assembly polls, the Left Front government in Tripura Thursday announced pensions and other benefits for construction workers.
“All the registered construction workers in Tripura would get Rs.400 per month as pension when they attain 60 years of age,” state Labour and Urban Development Minister Manik Dey told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
“Women construction workers would get maternity benefit and all the construction labourers would also get financial aid from Rs.2,000 to Rs.30,000 for their medical treatment,” he said.
All construction workers registered with the construction workers’ welfare board would be entitled to get the governmental sops, he said.
So far 18,047 construction workers have been registered with the government run board.
The minister said that the government would also provide loans at five percent interest rate to the construction workers if they want to launch a new venture on their own, besides giving them a lump sum amount to meet the expenditure of their daughters’ marriage ceremonies.
Assembly elections in the country’s lone Left-ruled state are scheduled in February next year.
To woo the voters, the Left Front government during the past few months has been announcing various sops and benefits, including rice at Rs.2 a kg to the poor under the public distribution system and increased quota for others.
