“The public interest litigation seeks a probe into the wealth amassed by Mahto. His declaration at the time of the 2004 election showed he had assets of Rs.7 lakh which increased to Rs.160 crore in 2009,” Rajeev Kumar, lawyer of petitioner Suraj Singh Besra, told IANS.

The petitioner sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged irregularities by Mahto in construction of a sports complex for the National Games.

An assembly committee found illegal escalation of construction cost of the sports complex project and recommended a probe by a national agency, the petition said.
