“The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) cleared FUA by civil and military users,” the civil aviation ministry said in a statement.

“The primary objective of FUA is to enhance airspace capacity, minimise delays, conserve fuel, reduce emission and ultimately benefit travelling public.”

According to the statement, a national high level airspace policy body (NHLAPB) for airspace will be set up with representatives of all concerned stakeholders.

“NHLAPB will take up the job of strategic planning and assess, reassess the national airspace requirements of various stakeholders,” the statement said.

It added that the defence ministry had agreed to the implementation of FUA, subject to ensuring adequate safeguards in the system to prevent inadvertent leak of military information.

Moreover, it is expected that implementation of FUA will provide a fuel saving of 2,029,380 kg per annum and reduction of 6,393,600 kg of carbon dioxide per annum by direct routing seven city pairs.

The statement said that the seven city pairs will be Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Kolkata, Delhi-Chennai, Delhi-Hyderabad, Delhi-Bengaluru, Kolkata-Chennai and Chennai-Mumbai.
