Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmad called an emergency meeting attended by his advisor Anand Shankar, Chief secretary R.S. Sharma, police chief Rajiv Kumar and others.

“In the meeting it was decided to hand over the investigation to the CBI,” Shankar told reporters after meeting.

Earlier, family members of both the girls had met the governor and demanded a CBI probe.

Two girls were found dead May 26 night in a pond in Deoghar district, 300 km from Ranchi. A person was arrested, but police made no headway in the case.

“The state police will not investigate properly. Evidence was destroyed by police, who did not register a rape case initially. We have demanded a CBI probe into the case. Police officials who destroyed evidence should be booked,” the father of one of the victims said.

The state government Tuesday handed over the investigation to the state CID and shunted out Deoghar Superintendent of Police Ranjit Sinha and Dumka range Deputy Inspector General Dadanji Sharma.
