Abu Dhabi : UAE and Russian officials held informal talks recently in Geneva to confer on issues related to Russian acquisition of membership of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Russia which is the largest economy outside the WTO is expected to join the organisation in early 2008.
The UAE officials at the talks expressed their keenness to see Russia become a WTO member, a move which they said would be beneficial to both Russia and WTO member countries.
Juma Mohammed Al Keit, Director of WTO and Free Trade Agreements Department at the UAE Ministry of Economy, said the UAE was particularly interested in the Russian market, notably in the areas of commodity and services.
The UAE is a member of the special committee tasked with processing the Russian membership.
