New Delhi: India Tuesday said it has assured Islamabad of ensuring the safety and security of the Pakistani missions in India and its staff as well as of its national airlines in the wake of demonstrations and threats against them.
“There has been information conveyed by Pakistan of concerns of safety and security of the Pakistan High Commission and buildings and the PIA (Pakistan International Airlines)…We have assured we will take all measures to ensure the safety and security of all Pakistani personnel in diplomatic missions as well as premises of the PIA,” said external affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin at a briefing here.
The Pakistan High Commission Monday had sought greater security for the offices of its national carrier PIA in Delhi and Mumbai over security threats, purported to be from the Shiv Sena.
Some unidentified people defaced the signboard of PIA office in Delhi by painting it black and pasted a pamphlet over it, threatening to shut the office Monday.
PIA officials lodged a complaint at the Barakhamba Road police station against unidentified people for defacing property and threatening. The miscreants were believed to be from the Delhi Shiv Sena, the police said.
Tension has grown between India and Pakistan following the killing last week of five Indian soldiers on the LoC by Pakistani troops. The killing has led to calls by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party to call off talks with Pakistan.
There have also been many instances of ceasefire violations by Pakistan, and return fire by India, in the last few days.
