Morton Grove, USA: Indian American Muslim Council (http://www.iamc.com), an advocacy group dedicated to safeguarding India’s pluralist and tolerant ethos wishes all Indians across the world a joyous 67th Independence Day of India.
On that momentous day of August 15, 1947, Indians of all creeds and religious beliefs achieved their long cherished goal to live with dignity and to be the masters of their own destiny. While recognizing our progress on many fronts, we must use this occasion to reaffirm our commitment to the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India to all citizens.
“The spirit of the freedom struggle must be kept alive by shunning the ideas of supremacy and by embracing the pluralism and diversity of India. The fruits of Independence must be reflected in security and equal opportunity for all the citizens,” said Ahsan Khan, President of IAMC. “Marginalization of any section of society is in direct contradiction to our national values and is detrimental to the health of the nation’s social fabric,” added Mr. Khan.
IAMC took this opportunity to commemorate the countless freedom fighters from various religious backgrounds and to seek inspiration from their sacrifices when they stood shoulder to shoulder in the struggle for India’s Independence.
Indian American Muslim Council is the largest advocacy organization of Indian Muslims in the United States with 13 chapters across the nation.
