Afghan man cuts his wife up on sacrifice day

Kabul : A man in the Zabul province of south Afghanistan cut off his wife’s nose and ears during the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, local officials said on Tuesday.

The local man, who has only been indentified as Mumtaz, shaved off his 17-year-old wife’s hair and then cut off her nose and ears.

The man continued beating his wife until her legs and arms were broken, the spokesman said. The woman is now in intensive care.

The woman was Mumtaz’s second wife. “He killed his first wife,” a local official said.

Eid Al-Adha is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims to mark the Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son Ismail upon instructions from God.
