Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Tuesday, the Guwahati MP said that they never expect the two seats – Dhubri and Barpeta constituencies. However, she stayed away from giving any specific reason for it.

All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal is the sitting MP of Dhubri while Ismail Hussain of Congress has been elected from Barpeta. It’s a significant development as both the constituencies are dominated by religious minority votes and BJP has been maintaining that it never believes in divisive vote bank politics in the name of religion.

“We will definitely better our results in the state from the previous years, may be eight seats this time. But we know that we will not win in Dhubri and Barpeta,” Chakraborty said.

At present the saffron party has four Lok Sabha seats in the state, namely Guwahati, Nagaon, Mangaldai and Silchar. Chakraborty also urged upon all the opposition parties except AIUDF to be united to defeat Congress.

“It’s time all of the opposition parties should come together to bring a change and rescue the people for corruption and other ill deeds. We need to make the hand of Narendra Modi stronger to rule the country in a better way,” she said, adding, “We don’t regard AIUDF as opposition. They are a part of Congress.”

Slamming the ruling Congress, she said that during the last 10 years more than 500 crores of rupees have come from the centre just for the betterment for Guwahati city. “Can anyone give the detail where is this sum of huge money? The money is kept on coming for the development of roads and drainage system of the city but here the corrupted ministers and officials have been using it for their own gain,” she said.

Quoting the Union Ministry of Urban Development’s survey which places Guwahati at the lowest position as unhealthy city to live, she said all the funds for the beautification and building toilets in the city have been misused.

She also said that BJP’s Prime Ministerial Narendra Modi will visit the state in the month of December and participate in four public rallies in Guwahati, Silchar besides two others places.

Bijoya began her political career in the Janata Party. She subsequently joined the regional Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and served in the Rajya Sabha from 1986 to 1992. Following her stint in the Rajya Sabha, she joined the Bhartiya Janata Party.
