Indeed Tarun Tejpal is well known Indian journalist, publisher and novelist who have many feathers in his crown. Even he is the son of a patriotic army person. Through his innovative sting operations he has changed the face of Indian journalism. But today he finds himself in a situation which is making his supporters as haters.
The journalist of such a caliber who has exposed government executioners must not forget that a single mistake will land him in a situation hard to bail out because the exposed or the legally suffered people due to his sting will not leave him if he is caught in the web of a law. That is what is happening with him today. Also, due to the strong allegations against him which goes totally against the moral & ethics even his supporters cannot come forward to defend him.
Similar thing happened with Julian Assange, a well known editor-in-chief and founder of WikiLeaks. In the year 2010 he published U.S. military and diplomatic documents with assistance from its partners in the news media and damaged the U.S. dignity and credibility before the world. Because of this he came on the target of U.S. who wanted to prosecute him in their court. Then the conspiracies started and he was finally caught in the web of Sweden law when two ladies filed complaint in the police station wanting Julian Assange to perform STD test as he had unprotected sex with them. The investigation started and Julian Assange was made an accused as per Swedish law which does not allow a man to perform unprotected sex if the partner insists on protected sex. Julian Assange cried that it was a consensual act but the case was not dropped. He is currently staying in the Ecuador’s embassy in London since last more than 2 years.
Despite of this he is holding the position in his organization Wikileaks and is thoroughly supported by his staff and the other world as he has exposed the U.S. dubious character. He still finds his supporters rallying in the street and holding the placards in his support. But no one is there in the street to support Tarun Tejpal today because his act was not consensual. He could have at least got some support if he would have not accepted any of victim’s version from the first day of allegations but as he himself have accepted some version of it, it is a bit difficult for him to find any supporter.
Even though he is saying that the matter is being politicized and his well wishers too understand it to be the case but when his own staff has gone against him and he himself has accepted that he had crossed the line and had offered his resignation from work for 6 months there arise no question of any supporter
standing in the street with a placard urging to release him no matter what great work he has done in the past.
