Dhaka : Bangladesh authorities Thursday said there is not much to prepare for the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami leader and war criminal Abdul Quader Mollah, whose review petition was dismissed by the Supreme Court.
Mollah can be executed at a very short notice since some preparations have already been completed, the Daily Star quoted prison officials as saying.
“Some preparations, like the meeting with relatives, were completed Tuesday when he was scheduled to be hanged,” the report quoted an official as saying on condition of anonymity.
“He will be given bath and asked whether he has any last wish,” said an official of Dhaka Central Jail, where Mollah has been kept.
The authorities would not need much time to set up the gallows “since everything has been kept ready”, the official added.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Md. Muzammel Hossain dismissed Mollah’s review petition.
The order means that the Jammat’s assistant secretary general can now be executed anytime.
