An event was organised at the residence of parliamentarian Naveen Jindal, whose NGO Flag Foundation of India has installed 45 monumental flag poles in 15 states since 2009.

“It is a special occasion for all of us today as it was on this date, 10 years ago, that the Supreme Court acknowledged that hoisting of the National Flag was a fundamental right of every citizen. It is also the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose which makes the occasion more special,” Jindal said.

He said the first monumental flag pole measuring 207 feet in height was installed in Kaithal, Haryana. Of the total flag poles, 12 measure 207 feet while the other 33 are 100-feet tall.

Jindal has also set his eyes on installing one such flag pole in the national capital.

“We want Delhi to have its own monumental flag pole but we are still working out the details. We want it to be installed in Central Park (in Connaught Place),” he told IANS on the sidelines of the event.

Acknowledging that a major part of northeastern India had been left out, Jindal said it was a “long process that required a lot of effort”.

“But these states will get the flags soon,” he said.
