Ramallah : Palestinian security forces arrested eight members of Islamic Hamas movement Friday night in West Bank, Hamas said on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by Hamas, the detentions took place in the cities of Jenin and Tulkarem.
The security forces, loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah, have been arresting Hamas leaders and members in the West Bank in response to the Islamic movement’s takeover of Gaza by force in June.
Fatah accuses Hamas of doing the same against its members in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Khalil Abu Laila, a Hamas official in Gaza, said the security services’ procedures in the West Bank are meant to “uproot the resistance.”
“There is an integration of roles between the Israeli entity and the Palestinian security forces in the West Bank to uproot the resistance,” Abu Laila told reporters.
