New Delhi : After a teeth chattering cold spell, the capital finally heaved a sigh of relief as Sunday dawned with the minimum rising to 7.4 degrees Celsius, normal for around this time of the year.
“The rise in the temperature is because of the cloudy weather,” an official of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) told IANS.
In contrast to last year on this day when the minimum was 6 degrees Celsius, this time it looks like the capital’s seeing the sunny side up.
“What a relief! After a long time I can plan something outdoors on the weekend. For the past few weeks it has always been watching a DVD and cooking on weekends but not daring to step out in the cold,” said Akash Mehra, a banker.
“But today with the bitter cold melting away, we are planning to go out for a lazy brunch,” he said.
“It’s depressing to stay indoors on weekends. But fortunately the weather gods have decided to grace us this time… the weather’s just perfect to go out shopping, eating and simply spending the entire day out,” said Sushmita Mukherjee, an artist.
Met officials have some more good news to offer to take away the Monday morning blues.
“On Monday, the minimum temperature might rise to 11 degrees Celsius. Again that would be because of the clouds,” the met official said.
