Mumbai : A key Indian financial market index tanked 250 points within a few minutes of opening Monday on the back of downward swings in world markets.
The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened 49.68 points down at 20,637.21, against the previous close of 20,686.89 points.
With the pressure of heavy selling, it tumbled down to 20,438, down by 249 points.
The broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) opened flat at 6,271.00 points, against the previous close of 6,274.30.
