Dhaka : The verdict against former Jatiya Party MP Abdul Jabbar, accused of war crimes during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, is expected soon.
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1, led by Justice Enayetur Rahim, finished the trial proceedings in absentia Wednesday and kept its verdict pending, bdnews24.com reported.
The ICT is a specially constituted court set up to prosecute those who committed war crimes during Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War.
The tribunal had declared Jabbar an absconder earlier and appointed Supreme Court lawyer Abul Hasan as his counsel.
Investigations into his alleged crimes started May 19 last year.
Jabbar is charged with five types of crimes against humanity committed during Bangladesh’s Liberation War.
