Pretoria : President Mvai Kibaki, of Kenya, has addressed the Opposition with an invitation to enter into a dialogue. The call follows the Opposition leader’s statements actions of protest must be resumed.
President Kibaki said there was a need to confirm commitment to a dialogue for the sake of producing a long-term solution of the current political crisis.
As he met with religious leaders on Friday, President Kibaki said he was prepared to cooperate with other political figures in order to ensure the restoration of peace.
Earlier, the leader of the opposition Orange Democratic Movement, Raila Odinga, accused the president of rigging the returns from the December 27 presidential election. According to official statistics Kibaki emerged the winner. Odinga argues, though, that the president is to blame for the failure of international mediation attempts.
The opposition politician on Friday declared demonstrations of protest will be resumed next Wednesday.
Political violence in Kenya has claimed 600 lives. Another 250,000 refugees have had to flee in fear for their lives.
