For many Muslims, how they carry themselves in their day-to-day lives is a form of dawah or invitation to Islam. Akhlaq or good conduct, being an inherent part of the faith, it’s also their way of projecting Islam to the world.
There are a growing number of Muslims, usually young, educated ones, who believe, referring to the life of the Prophet himself, that it is imperative on all Muslims to spread the word of Islam, by preaching and teaching about it.

To give shape to this idea, and this being a month of Ramadan, a group of young Muslims have installed, what they call the dawah stall, where they spend their evenings, talking to non-Muslims, and answering their questions about Islam.

The stall is the initiative of Saeed ibn George, who runs the Amity Peace Foundation. As the name implies, he is a convert – rather reverted to Islam. Saeed says, he started the stall last Ramadan, and seeing the positive response he received from non-Muslims and Muslims alike, he decided to put the stall, this time again.

He says, there is a growing interest among people, especially the youth, who want to know about Islam, and its teachings, and the stall caters to that need. According to him, and a group of volunteers, who participate in this activity every day, close to 200 to 250 copies of Qur’an are distributed in various languages, with the English translation being the highest. He says, the number increases, during the weekend.
Mohsin Kamal, one of the volunteers at the stall, says that many non-Muslims are amazed when they come to know that Allah is not a unique god worshiped by Muslims alone, but is the name of the same creator, worshiped by all.

The stall has a banner with the list of all the Prophets mentioned in the Qur’an, and Mohsin says, many people express curiosity, especially, when they see the names of Jesus, Abraham and Moses.
When asked, what are the common questions asked, he replies saying, “Most of them want to know who wrote the Qur’an, or why is so much violence associated with Muslims, or why Muslim men are allowed to marry more than one women?”
He says, the group tries to answer these and many other questions in the best way possible, with the intent to clear any misconception one may have about the faith.
Saeed says that, initiatives such as this bridges gap between communities, as there is a lot of misinformation and misconceptions about Islam.
