A Metropolitan Magistrate Court acquitted Shamshuddin, Zaheeruddin Ahmed, Azeemuddin, Nazeeruddin, Mohammed Yousuf, Mohammed Ansari (all from Karnataka) and M. Gouse, Pasha and Aziz Akbar (all from Hyderabad).

The court, however, directed the prosecution to continue the probe against the main accused Jaleel Ansari, who is also an accused in other terror attacks including the 1993 Mumbai blasts. Ansari is presently lodged in Ajmer jail.

The court dismissed all four cases registered against the nine accused saying there was insufficient evidence against them.

Three people were killed and several injured in the six blasts that occurred between Aug 12 and Dec 6, 1993.

The blasts were carried out at Abids, Humayun Nagar, Madina education centre, Nampally, Secunderabad Railway Reservation Complex and the New Delhi-bound Andhra Pradesh Express at Moulali near the city.

Police had then claimed that the attacks were carried out by agents of Pakistan's Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) to avenge the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in 1992.

Public prosecutor Krishna Kumar told reporters that the lower court order would be challenged in the high court.
