31st All India Criminology Conf. in Bhopal from today

Bhopal: Stage is all set for the three-day 31st All India Criminology Conference which is starting here in Bhopal from Friday (January 18) as over 100 delegates have already arrived for this mega event .

About 500 delegates, some from foreign countries and rest from all over India, would be participating in it. Apart from all over India delegates would be coming from South Africa, the United States of America, Israel, Italy and Bangladesh.

The Criminology Conference is being organized by the National Law Institute University, (NLIU), Bhopal, in collaboration with Indian Society of Criminology, Chennai.

The conference has been sponsored by Department of Women & Child Development, Government of Madhya Pradesh, National Commission for Women, New Delhi and Bureau of Police Research & Development, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi.

It will be inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Governor Dr. Balram Jakhar on January 18 at 10.30 am. While well-known Dr. (Mrs.)Kiran Bedi, the first woman IPS officer of the country, who has now retired, will take part in the deliberations on January 20. She will be awarded Kumarappa-Reckless Award, the highest award in the country in the field of criminal justice system.

The highlight of the conference would be presentation of draft proposal on National Criminal Justice policy by former National Judicial Academy Director Prof. N. R. Madhava Menon.

According to Prof. G.S. Bajpai, the Organizing Secretary, the focal theme of the Criminology Conference is strengthening Criminal Justice Administration. He said research papers based on empirical studies have been invited only from young research scholars/students below the age of 35 years for presentation at the scientific session. The paper adjudged as the best one will be awarded the ISC Gold Medal.

A total of 204 research papers dealing with subjects like crime against women and children, cyber crimes and devising victim justice within the law system would be presented by law experts and students. There will be 21 different sub-themes for the four parallel sessions during the three days of the conference.

Among the delegates who would be presenting a paper jointly would be Prof. Dr. Ing. J. H. Agarwal & Prof. (Mrs.) Vijaya Agarwal of Bhopal. The theme of their paper is “Applications of e-technologies, a newer role of Electronic Evidences in Criminology” which will be presented on January 20.

The conference will have the participation of academicians in the field of Criminology & Criminal Justice Administration, Law, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology and other social sciences. The practitioners and administrators in the field of Criminal Justice Administration including judges, police and prison officials, representatives of the Civil Society – NGOs, Media and other Activist Groups will also attend the conference.
