New Delhi : After days of warm weather, chill returned to the national capital Monday with the minimum temperature dropping to 3.8 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the chill is due to snowfall in the Himalayan foothills, especially in the Kashmir Valley.
“This weather condition will continue at least till Wednesday. Snowfall in Kashmir is the key behind the cold condition,” an IMD official said.
The national capital recorded a minimum of 6.4 degrees Sunday. The maximum temperature Sunday was 17.8 degrees Celsius (three degrees below normal).
According to the officials, as the minimum temperature had gone up to 14 degrees last week, people in the city were feeling much colder.
“Less gap between the minimum and maximum temperature is really making the day time colder,” the official added.
The mercury plummeted to 2.6 degrees Jan 1 and on Jan 2 the minimum temperature was 1.9 degrees, lowest in last five years.
