Kozhikode : This year Kerala will have to wait for three more months to get its budget passed in its assembly due to the state conferences of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Communist Party of India (CPI).
The government is planning to present a vote-on-account or interim budget this year, said state Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac at a press conference here Monday.
The minister said the delay in presenting the budget would not cause any crisis in the state.
“The full budget (presentation) means that budget should be debated and different subject committees should give their suggestions on the demands by various departments. Based on these suggestions, the assembly should debate and pass allocation for each departments. The entire process will take 6-7 weeks,” the minister said.
“This year we don’t have this much time at our disposal to debate and pass the budget due to state conferences of the CPI and CPI (M). Therefore, we will present and pass the government expenditure for the next three months,” Isaac said.
“In these three months, the subject committees will give their suggestions on the demands by departments. The Assembly will be convened within this period to pass the budgetary demands,” the minister added.
