NEW DELHI, Jan 24 (KUNA) — The Indian government Thursday decided to launch nationwide campaigns about the bird flu through the electronic and print media to help prevent spreading the disease.
Talking to reporters here today, Indias Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had called for launching a campaign against the disease across the country.
“I have been directed by the Prime Minister to give widespread publicity to the issue,” Dasmunsi said, adding “My Ministry is launching a campaign through state-run All India Radio”.
The Indian states to be covered as part of the campaign are West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Orissa, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Nine districts in the Eastern Indian state of West Bengal have been affected by the bird flu. The World Health Organisation has already expressed concern over the situation there.
